Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Jacob Elshin was born in St. Petersburg, Russia and studied art for 7 years at the Imperial Academy of Alesander II. He came to Seattle in 1923 and worked as a painter. He did murals for the Renton and University district Post Offices and West Seattle High School. He died in 1976.

Interview covers period from the 1930s through the 1950s. The subject, Jacob Elshin, was a painter active in Seattle from WPA days through the 1950s. The interviewee is his wife, Jean Elshin, who is also a painter.
