         <p>Jacob Elshin was born in St. Petersburg, Russia and studied art for 7 years at the Imperial Academy of Alesander II. He came to Seattle in 1923 and worked as a painter. He did murals for the Renton and University district Post Offices and West Seattle High School. He died in 1976.</p>

         <p>Tape recorded interview conducted by Sue Ragen, Nov. 14, 1977.</p>
         <p>Interview covers period from the 1930s through the 1950s. The subject, Jacob Elshin, was a painter active in Seattle from WPA days through the 1950s. The interviewee is his wife, Jean Elshin, who is also a painter.</p>
