Biographical Note

Maxine Cushing Gray was the music crtic for Seattle Post-Intelligencer between 1951 and 1953, and arts editor of "Argus," Seattle, from 1954 to 1974. Subsequently in 1975, she published and edited "Northwest Arts," a bi-weekly, Seattle publication. Gray emphasized in her columns, the need to recognize the rights of minority groups, and especially the Indians of the Northwest. She was a staunch advocate for performance dance.
