Biographical NoteReturn to Top
Harry Bonath was born in Ohio and grew up in Sacramento, CA, before attending the California School of Fine Arts. He came to Seattle in 1927 as one of the "California Style" school of advertising artists. Bonath became the art director of two different advertising agencies (including Erwin, Wasey & Co.) before World War II and then served in the Navy during the war. After the war, he returned to Seattle and opened up Harry Bonath & Associates, which he ran until his death in 1976. He did illustrations for the Seattle Times and many other local, regional, and national ad campaigns. He also exhibited his paintings in various galleries and museums, including the Seattle Art Museum. Bonath was one of the founders of the Puget Sound Group of Northwest Painters.
