Roland and Esther Schaefer papers, 1911-1960s

Abstract: Roland and Esther Schaefer were American missionaries who served in Kiukiang from 1914-1919 and Yenping from 1924-1927. The collections contains photographs, correspondence, Chinese language materials, and assorted publications and emphemera from the Schaefers' time as missionaries.

Eliza Anne Hughes Davis papers, 1895-1920

Abstract: Eliza Anne Hughes Davis was an American Methodist who corresponded with women missionaries in China. The papers contain Mrs. Davis' incoming correspondence, including letters from Jennie V. Hughes that mention Ms. Hughes' work with the Women's Foreign Missionary Service in Kiukiang, China. In her capacity as Principal of the Knowles Bible Training School, Ms. Hughes directed an organization run exclusively by and for women, using the tenets of Methodism as a basis for training Chinese women in literacy and hygiene. The letters provide a glimpse into the reflections and responsiblilities of a female missionary and document the cultural and political conditionss in China following the Boxer Rebellion, including the Nanchang massacre in 1906.

Murray Scott Frame and Alice Seymore Brown Frame papers, 1901-1916

Abstract: Murray Scott Frame (d.1918) was a Congregational missionary and teacher in Lahore, India and Beijing, China, where he witnessed the 1911 Republican Revolution. His brother, John Davidson Frame (b. 1880), was a medical missionary for the Presbyterian Church in Persia. The collection consists of correspondence from the brothers to the family, including Alice Seymour Brown Frame, Murray's wife.
