Biographical Note
Albert F. Chittenden came to Spokane Falls with his widowed mother in 1855, where they took up a homestead northeast of the city. Mrs. Chittenden raised her five children on the farm until 1895, when they moved to Havermale Island in the city of Spokane.
Content Description
The 157-page volume written in 1943-1944, is a collection of Albert Chittenden’s reminiscences of his childhood, 1885-1895. Entitled, “Bingo and his Pioneer Family,” the stories are interwoven with the life of the family dog, Bingo. The reminiscences contain extensive detail regarding pioneer life in Spokane County. The extreme winter of 1887-1888 is discussed in great detail.
