Biographical Note

Sandra Silberstein came to the University of Washington's English Department in 1982 after receiving her PhD in Linguistics from the University of Michigan. Over her 37 years at UW, she published over 30 articles and book chapters, 6 books. She consulted internationally in Asia and the Middle East and founded a University of Washington program in León, Spain. In 2016, she was awarded the prestigious Marsha L. Landolt Distinguished Graduate Mentor Award. She served as Director of the UW English Department’s MATESOL (Master of Arts for Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages) program for 30 years. Silberstein retired in 2019.
