Historical Note

The Anaplasmosis/Babesiosis Network (ABN), centered at Washington State University, is only one part of the larger Improved Animal Vaccines through Biotechnology Phase II: Anaplasmosis and Babesiosis Project funded by the Bureau for Science and Technology, USAID from 1988 to September 1993. Through this Cooperative Agreement the University of Florida, the University of Missouri/Columbia and Washington State University have collaborated with primary and secondary sites in Asia, Africa, and Latin America in biotechnological research related to the development of effective vaccines for the control of anaplasmosis and babesiosis. The Network aimed to assist in the identification and transfer of current and emerging information on anaplasmosis and babesioses and potential vaccine development (From Anaplasmosis/Babesiosis Directory, 1993, by Rita Fisher).
