Historical Note
John E. Higgins was a prominent resident of Glenrock, Wyoming, having come to the coal-mining town after leaving Wisconsin for Montana to enter the mining business. After settling in Glenrock, Higgins built a large country home and ran a mercantile business while building a vast estate. He also became a well-known sheepman in the wool industry. Upon his death, Higgins’ estate was work nearly half a million dollars and included a hotel and the Lincoln building in Glenrock as well as stock in the Glenrock Sheep Company. An auction for what was left of the estate was held in August 1942.

Collection contains 2 black leather books containing the report of J. G. Underwood, Special Agent for the State of Wyoming, covering the properties of the Higgins Estate in Glenrock, Wyoming between November 1, 1929 and January 1, 1931.
