Biographical Note

Enoch A. Fred was born in Marysville, Montana on April 23, 1910. His parents, Oscar and Annie Magnosson Fred, both immigrated from Sweden, eventually settling in Marysville where Oscar worked as a "timberman" in the local gold mines. By Enoch's 19th birthday (1930), the family had moved to Helena, where Oscar again took up gold mining, this time as a "mill worker." In that same year, Enoch secured work as a clerk at the Holter Hardware Store. Two years later, in 1932, he married Irene Lehfeldt, a native of Musselshell, Montana. In 1934, Irene and Enoch welcomed a son, Earl E. Fred into the world.

Enoch continued to work as a clerk at the Holter Hardware Store until 1950, when he took up work as a mechanic at Anderson Motors. He remained at Anderson Motors until 1976, working his way up from "Parts Man" to Part Department Manager over the course of those twenty years. He passed away in Helena in June of 1987.
