Historical Note

Eugene Edward Wilson was a United States Navy and WWI veteran, pilot, and businessman. Wilson graduated from the Naval Academy in 1908 and went on to serve in high-ranking positions in the U.S. Navy and Bureau of Aeronautics. During his tenure at the Bureau of Aeronautics, Wilson was involved with the development of the Pratt and Whitney “Wasp” engine. He eventually earned the title of Lieutenant Commander. Upon retiring in 1930, he became president of the Hamilton Standard Propeller Corporation, the Sikorsky Aviation Corporation, the Chance Vought Corporation, and the United Aircraft Corporation during WWII.

Collection contains a booklet by Eugene T. Wilson and Eugene E. Wilson titled “Hawks and Doves in the Nez Perce War of 1877” about the recollections of Eugene T. Wilson who served in the civilian volunteer forces of General O. O. Howard; books and pamphlets by Eugene E. Wilson concerning aviation, his experiences in the Navy and Navy history; and a publication titled “Profile of an American Aircraftsman” by Francis P. Antel about the life of Eugene E. Wilson.
