Content Description

The Merrill F. McLane papers include annotated photographs of climbs in the Teton Range made by McLane with Jack Durrance and Henry Coulter between 1941 and 1946. His climbing accounts include the Grand Teton, Middle Teton, and Mt. Owen. One folder contains information about a bus trip from Rock Springs, to Bondurant, and to Jackson in 1941. There is also material in the collection regarding Jackson Hole pioneer Henry (Hank) Crandall, Grand Teton National Park ranger and mountaineer Harold Rapp, Teton mountaineering historian Orrin Bonney, and geologist Fritiof Fryxell. There is one photograph related to the 1941 rescue effort of a stranded parachutist on Devils Tower, and there is a copy of the book, “Mountain Climbing Guide to the Grand Tetons” authored by McLane and Henry Coulter in 1947.
