Historical Note
The Mollie Gibson Consolidated Mining and Milling Company was organized when H.B. Gillespie, owner of the Mollie Gibson Mine, partnered with investor J.J. Hagerman in 1890. Hagerman was president and Gillespie was manager of the company. The Mollie Gibson, located in Pitkin County, Colorado, was combined with nearby mines to form the richest silver strike in the world at that time. Although the repeal of the Sherman Silver Act in 1893 undermined the price of silver, the Mollie Gibson combination continued to operate profitably producing silver, lead, and zinc.
Content Description
The Mollie Gibson Consolidated Mining and Milling Company letterpress book contains letterpress copies of outgoing correspondence of superintendent William J. Cox and agent W. Rowland Cox from 1900 to 1902. The correspondence concerns supplies, mine operations, accident reports, and other matters.
