Archives West Finding Aid

Materials in this series include legal documents, letters of agreement, contracts, and book proposals. Also included are notes, memos, emails, and correspondence to Nick and Tony Lyons and other staff members. Other items present include company catalogs, original manuscripts with editor/proofreader remarks and changes, passes, and galleys. Writings authored by Nick Lyons have been separated from the series for inclusion with Series 2, the separation is denoted by an asterisk (*) next to the folder from which material was removed. Folders within the Lyons Archives binders 1-14 and 23-25 reflect the subdivisions imposed by the creator. Some divisions pertain to a particular author, other divisions pertain to a particular text, while some divisions pertain to publishing issues, proposals, submissions, etc.; no master list was included with the collection to direct the user to the items included within each division. Each folder within a specific binder represents a series of documents within each division. Binders 23-25 contain correspondence between Lyons and the United Kingdom Authors. Correspondents within the Lyons Archives binders include: Tom Rosenbauer, Gary LaFontaine, Charles E. Brooks, Paul Schullery, Bud Lilly, William Humphrey, and Sylvester Nemes.

Items in this series consist of hand written and typed manuscript drafts with notes and editorial corrections of Lyons books, articles, and reviews. Writings are grouped as manuscripts, articles, and reviews. Where publications and dates have been determined the materials are by publication in chronological order, all other writings are organized chronologically then alphabetically.

Additional materials in this series include early handwritten and typed drafts of articles by Nick Lyons. Included are drafts of “Mari, Montana, the Sphinx, and Me”, “The View from Manhattan (NY)”, and “City Angler”.

Images in this series include an announcement for the sale of Lyons Press, a photographic print, original watercolors, tied flies, and an original oil painting. Some images are framed or mounted. Where identified the title of the image has been included, along with the name of the artist.

Materials in this series include correspondence between Nick and Tony Lyons, correspondence between Lyons Press and famous individuals such as renowned writers like John Irving, Norman McLean, Margret Atwood, Thomas McGuane, and Jon Krakauer, as well as letters received from famous United States politicians such as Barack and Michelle Obama, Hillary Clinton, Laura Bush, and Max Baucus. Other business materials include: business correspondence, financial documents, publishing agreements, author contracts, publishing documents, catalogues, and special sales information. Titles located on the Lyons Archives Binders have been preserved in the folder titles, as well as the creator’s arrangement.
