Historical Note
William Ainsworth (1850- ) was born in England and came to the U.S. with his mother in 1853. After working as a watch-maker in Illinois, he moved to Denver, Colorado, in 1877. In 1880 he established William Ainsworth Company, which manufactured assay balances, assay weights, surveying instruments and the Brunton Patent Pocket Mine Transit. The Company changed its name around 1915 to William Ainsworth & Sons, Inc.
