Biographical Note

Ambrose McCarthy Patterson was born in Australia (1887) and after early art studies at the National Gallery in Melbourne (1896) went to Paris for further study (1898-1910). While there, he studied at several academies and was elected a member of the Société du Salon d'Automne. He returned to Australia (1910) and after a brief stay in Honolulu (1915-17) and San Francisco (1917-18), he became an instructor at the University of Washington School of Art (Inst.1919-45, prof.1945-47, prof.emer.,1947-). He was a founder and president of Northwest Printers. His paintings are in collections in France, Belgium, England, Australia and America. He died in 1966.
