Biographical Note

Eugene Favre, a Stanford University graduate, came to Spokane in 1907. He had worked briefly as a reporter for the San Francisco Call and Examiner before coming to the Northwest. Favre pursued a long and successful career in investment banking in Spokane as a partner in Murphy, Favre & Company. He also served as a director of the Spokane and Eastern Trust Company, Spokane Title Company, and Washington Savings and Loan Association.

Content Description

The collection consists of personal letters from Favre to his mother and sisters during his student time at Stanford University, 1902-1905; as reporter for the San Francisco Call and Examiner, 1906-1907; and as a business man in Spokane, 1907-1918. Of particular interest are Favre’s letters written following the San Francisco earthquake and fire, 1906. Also included are letters and mineral preemption claims from Kansas and Colorado territories, and other materials relating to Eugene Favre, Sr. (1827-1894), genealogical information on the Favre family, and family photographs.
