Historical Note
On September 19, 1938, a group of eight women in Missoula, Montana, organized a home demonstration club called the Sacajawea Club. Its purpose was the development of a healthy rural family life, contributing toward self-realization, economic efficiency, assumption of civic responsibility and desirable human relationships.
Meetings of the club were held monthly. The topics that the group discussed were general club business, nutrition, housecleaning, gardening, literature, and sewing demonstrations. The club also partook in social events such as dessert luncheons, Christmas parties, and awards banquets. The club also took part in National Achievement Day. Missoula and Mineral county home demonstration members gathered together and exhibited various booths demonstrating the value of extension service work and the skills that can be learned through the participation in home demonstration programs.
The club dissolved in 1980.
