Historical Note
The Wyoming Music Educators Association (WMEA) was the Wyoming affiliate of the Music Educators National Conference. Members included teachers and students from the states educational systems, Kindergarten - 12th grade, college/university, and private music instructors throughout the state. Their mission was to promote music programs in the K -12 public school system and to provide financial asisistance. Each year the WMEA organized and implemented the all-state competitions in band, orchestra and voice, and offered continuting education workshops for music teachers in Wyoming, summer camps, clinics, and festivals. They also offered scholarships and made awards to outstanding student musicians.
Content Description
Wyoming Music Educators Association records include president's files, 1972-1990; WMEA newsletters for the 1970s and 1980s; concert programs, 1971-1990. Office files for two decades include: board minutes, recertification by the State Department of Education, proposals, personnel files, organizational history, and legal papers. Information about the Music Educators National Conference is included. Ephemera includes: phonograph records, cassettes, and photographs.
