Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Robert W. Shields was a schoolteacher, businessman, and minister of the First Congregational Church in Dayton, Washington. He kept a diary of his life from 1970 to 1997, recording a daily record of his actions, interactions, and thoughts. The diary ends in 1997 when Shields suffered a stroke.

Robert Shields died in 2007.

The diary, primarily typewritten, makes up the bulk of the collection and is estimated to contain approximately 37.5 million words.
