Historical Note
The Montana-Yellowstone Oil Company was formed by Frank C. Hughes to explore for oil near Glendive, Montana. In 1917 the company was the first in Montana to use rotary drilling, and a well was sunk to 4104 feet. The company was dissolved in 1952.
Content Description
The collection contains maps of Montana and the Cedar Creek anticline; a photograph of the Montana-Yellowstone oil well near Glendive, Montana; a prospectus; reports of oil prospects in the Cedar Creek anticline; and a well log from Redfield, South Dakota.
