Historical Note
Arthur Earl Fath was a petroleum geologist who began his career with the U.S. Geological Survey in 1913 at a time when geologists were gradually becoming integrated into American petroleum prospecting. He is also noted as a founding member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists. While with the Geological Survey, Fath mapped counties in Oklahoma and Kansas. He left his federal position in 1922 to work for the Vacuum Oil Company (Mobile) in Europe until 1926 when he briefly left this post to consult in Texas, Cuba, and Germany. Fath returned to Vacuum Oil Company in 1932 and oversaw petroleum prospects in Europe, Egypt, Venezuela, and Canada. He retired in 1952.
