Historical Note
Zilla Linford Richards was born in Logan, Utah on July 29, 1908 to Mary Hooper Blood and James Henry Linford, Jr. Through her mother, Zilla was the niece of Henry H. Blood, the seventh governor of the state of Utah. Zilla Linford Richards attended Utah State Agricultural College, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics in 1929. On September 3, 1930, she married Lorenzo "Ren" Adolph Richards (1904-1993) in Salt Lake City, Utah. Richards was the grandson of Willard Richards, an early leader in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Richards was a scientist specializing in soil physics; through his job, the family moved to Riverside, California, so that he could work for the United States Department of Agriculture Salinity Laboratory. In 1966, Ren Richards founded his own company, Lark Instruments. Zilla Linford Richards died on February 3, 2001 in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California and was buried in Farmington, Utah.
