Historical Note

Special Collections was formally established in 1947 as a department of the University of Oregon library. Materials in Special Collections derive from collecting efforts by the History Department in the late 19th century, the creation of the Oregon Collection for the 1915 Panama-Pacific Exposition, and the acquisition of the Burgess manuscripts in the 1930s.
