Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Steve Forrester was a reporter for the Oregon Journal newspaper in Portland, Oregon, before becoming one of the founders and the managing editor of the Portland weekly newspaper Willamette Week. In 1978, he purchased the Washington, D.C.-based news bureau Northwest Newspapers from A. Robert Smith. From then until 1987, Forrester wrote news columns that the bureau distributed to newspapers in Oregon, Washington state, and Idaho, including the Eugene Register-Guard, the Daily Astorian, the East Oregonian, the Klamath Falls Herald & News, the Roseburg News Review, and the Medford Mail Tribune. He then succeeded his father, J. W. "Bud" Forrester, as publisher and editor of the Daily Astorian in Astoria, Oregon.
