Historical Note
Ruth Shane was born on May 21, 1933 to Brynhild and Carl Johannesen in Emmett, Idaho. As a child she went to Central Mesa Elementary School and later Emmett High School. After graduating high school in 1951, Ruth enrolled at the University of Idaho. She pursued a major in Home Economics.
During her time at U of I, Ruth lived in Forney Hall and was active in 4-H and other various campus activities. She completed her degree in 1955 and married Bill Shane that same year. After finishing her degree, she continued at U of I doing home economics research. Ruth then served as the Latah and Gooding County Extension home economist. Ruth passed away on February 8, 2006 and the Ruth Shane Memorial Scholarship is named in her honor.
Content Description
This collection contains a large collection of varying recipes kept by Ruth Shane. Ruth was a home economics research for the University of Idaho and worked as the Extension home economist for Latah and Gooding counties. Most of the recipes come from the Moscow Homemaker's Recipe Luncheon. Most others came from the College of Agriculture Cooperative Extension Service.

Arrangement
The materials were transferred in labeled folders and left in original order during the processing procedure. The written labels were used as the series titles.

This collection was transferred to Special Collections from Debra Rumford, Family and Consumer Sciences Department in 2013.
