Historical Note

David J. Forbert was a photographer. He was born July 12, 1925 and his interest in photography started when he won first place in a school photo contest. He joined the U.S. Navy at age 17 as a photographers mate in the South Pacific during World War II. After the war, Forbert studied photography in Kansas City, Missouri and New York City before working at Readers Digest. He shot over 1000 cover photos for the foreign editions of Readers Digest. He also worked as a freelance photographer and was co-owner of a New York city stock photo agency.
