Historical Note

The University of Wyoming, College of Engineering was originally the Mechanical Engineering department of the University of Wyoming when the school was established in 1886. It was one of the core programs that the University of Wyoming offered to its students. In the 1940s the College of Engineering was officially organized into four departments: Civil and Architectural Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and General Engineering. Today the College is made up of seven departments: Atmospheric Science, Chemical Engineering, Civil and Architectural Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Petroleum Engineering. Its mission is to serve the citizens of Wyoming through engineering and technology oriented research and educational opportunities and collaborations that provide practical answers to critical state, national, and international needs.
