Historical Note

Carol Lois Clark was an educator in Salt Lake City who received her doctorate and masters degree in education from the University of Utah. Clark became an administrative assistant to the then Governor, Norman H. Bangerter. In 1984, Clark was instated as the first Consumer Education Specialist for the Utah Attorney General's Office. Clark's responsibility in the position was to educate the Utah public on smart consumer tips and practices. Following her time with the Attorney General's Office in 1986, Clark became the director of Utah's Department of Economic Development's Women's Bureau.

Clark was well known across the state and nation for her expertise in consumer education and was often consulted for various articles and magazines. Additionally, Clark was an active writer and was commonly known for being the author of How to Avoid Getting Ripped Off (1985) as well as many other poems and short stories. Besides being an active writer for her various state-positions, Clark often wrote and spoke for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
