Historical Note

Thomas Moran was an influential nineteenth century landscape painter who uniquely took an interest in the natural scenes of the Rocky Mountains and Yellowstone National Park. In painting these western scenes, Moran invigorated the imaginations of those who sought to settle in the region.

Collection contains catalogs of memorial exhibitions of works by Thomas Moran; articles from Fine Arts Journal and other magazines concerning the artistic techniques of Moran; articles by Fritiof Fryxell about Moran; a 1936-1937 calendar distributed by the Emigrant Industrial Savings Bank; and one piece of correspondence.
