Historical Note

Charles T. Scott was an English teacher on the Teachers College, Columbia University (TCCU) Afghanistan Team teaching reading, writing, and literature to Kabul University students. He was born on October 21, 1932 in New York City where his family lived for most of his childhood. Scott received a bachelors in English and later an M.A. in English Education from New York University. From 1958-1962, Scott joined the TCCU’s Afghanistan Team as an English language instructor in Kabul, Afghanistan. After returning to the states, Scott received his Ph.D. in linguistics and was hired as a professor at the University of Madison Wisconsin (UW). He retired in 2000 and in 2011 wrote a memoir, "Remembering Afghanistan," detailing Scott’s experiences in Afghanistan.
