Historical Background

From the official University of Washington website, regarding Odegaard Library: "The library opened in 1972, and is named after University of Washington President Emeritus Charles E. Odegaard, its mission, to meet the information needs of undergraduate students in a large university environment. The library was renovated in 2013 and recognized for the 2014 American Institute of Architects (AIA) Institute Honor Awards for Interior Architecture."

Content Description

The film uses the interaction between a librarian and a gorilla to demonstrate unacceptable behavior in the University of Washington's Odegaard Library. An actor in a gorilla suit proceeds to break a host of library rules, from abuse of printed materials to improper use of the copy machine. After being followed and repeatedly reprimanded by a library employee, the gorilla is asked to leave the building.

Detailed Description of the Collection

 

  • Description: Gorilla Gone Wild, How NOT to Behave in the Library film

    An actor in a gorilla suit stomps into the University of Washington's Odegaard Library and demonstrates various forms of poor behavior. Printed materials within the library are soiled with food, defaced with a writing utensil, and torn and folded by the gorilla. The building's copy machine is improperly used. These antics attract the attention of a library employee who proceeds to trail the animal and eventually turn the gorilla away from the facility.
