R. G. McMurtry was a history professor who collected possessions, letters, and manuscripts of Abraham Lincoln. McMurtry served as director of the Louis A. Warren Lincoln Library and Museum, which was established by the Lincoln National Life Insurance Company in 1928, from 1956 until 1973. He was the author of over 200 works on Lincoln.
