Historical Note

Work to construct the Holtz Building at the northwest corner of 5th and Washington in Portland, Oregon, began on November, 1, 1911, and was completed on May 1, 1912. The building was designed by the architecture firm of Doyle, Patterson, & Beach, and was constructed by the Brayton Engineering Company. The building was later renamed the Mead Building.

Content Description

Album containing 31 black and white photographs, 1911-1912, of the construction of the Holtz Building (now the Mead Building) at 421 SW 5th Ave. in Portland, Oregon, by the Brayton Engineering Company. The first photograph in the album shows the building that was originally on the site and was demolished. The remaining photos show the progress of construction of the Holtz Building over time, beginning with the empty lot and ending with a photograph of the completed building on June 1, 1912.
