Historical Background
The Pike Place Market Record was started in January of 1973 as a monthly newsletter that gave updates, stories and information about the Market merchants, community events and news. The newspaper is still an independently run newpaper that welcomes community photographers and shares current events and local advertisements.

Market Tiles Story
In 1986, the Market Foundation sold sand blasted tiles with donors names inscribed on them for a donation of $35. The capital campaign raised roughly 1.6 million dollars. The tiles were laid in various places around the market, and can still be seen today.

Float tanks, also known as isolation tanks, are often used to treat stress and chronic anxiety disorders. A particpant enters the tank, usually nude, and floats on their back in water treated with epsom salts. The tanks are designed to minimize sensory pereception for the course of the exercise, and are noted for their positive results in treating stress-related illnesses.
