Historical Note
Vernon G. Bentley was the mayor of Laramie, Wyoming, from 1951-1953. Prior to that he served as a councilman. He was appointed judge to the 2nd district judicial court (Albany, Carbon, and Sweetwater counties) in 1952. He practiced law in Laramie and was active in the Chamber of Commerce having served as its president in the early 1950s.
Bentley was born in Casper, Wyoming, on February 2, 1915, and graduated from Natrona County High School in 1933. He attended the University of Wyoming and was active in the Alpha Tau Omega (ATO) Fraternity. He earned his BA in 1938 and his JD in 1939. He served in the Navy during World War II in Europe. On May 1946, he married Sudie Elizabeth Nelms, the niece of the University Of Wyoming president George Duke Humphrey. Bentley passed away in Laramie on October 2, 2014.

Bentley’s early life, including a Natrona County High School scrapbook; photographs and printed materials from when he was a student at the University of Wyoming; documents, correspondence, maps, and newspaper clippings about his service in World War II; and newspaper clippings about Bentley’s time as mayor of Laramie, Wyoming.
