Content Description
The Myton family photo collection consists of Major H.P. Myton family. The collection is a revealing look into the United States government action into the lives of the Native American populace during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Detailed are U.S. Cavalry men at White Rocks Indian Agency/Reservation for the Ute Tribe. Some who came from nearby Fort Duchesne. Photographs are of everyday life for both U.S. military men and Ute people from the perspective of the photographer. The "Utelanders" photo album is the only one with a running narrative under each photograph presumably from the photographer. Comments are recorded in the register following. Albums and photographs are in deteriorating condition but very good considering their age. A special effort has been made by the Marriott Library Preservation deptartment to slow the effects of aging in this collection and considering the subject matter we ask that the patron exercise extreme respect and care for this collection.
