Content DescriptionReturn to Top
This collection includes photographs and notes taken by Castro during the eight surrender conferences between the United States Marine Corps and Japanese officials, which were held between August 23 and September 25, 1945. The materials are photocopies that were sent to H. G. Barnett of the University of Oregon Department of Anthropology. Barnett wrote the books "Being a Palauan" and "Palauan Society," which are anthropological accounts of the native people of Peleliu. Castro wrote to Barnett seeking more information on Palauan culture, and sent him materials from his time in Peleliu during the war.
