Content Description

Photographs of Palouse area, Idaho and South America; scrapbook of his year in Colombia; series of photos of Nez Perce woman; newsclippingsp; programs; brochures. Additional materials added include photographs from Fulbright research, personal photographs, and research pertaining to his faculty position.

Historical Note

George was born August 21, 1904 to Ames Lynn and Rose Woodbury in St. Johns, Michigan where he was educated. He earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from Michigan Agricultural College (now Michigan State University). He received his doctorate in vegetable crops from Comell University. His first teaching job was at the University of Maine where he met and married Kathryn Schanley in 1928. In 1935, Woodbury was employed by the University of Idaho. During World War II he worked in commercial areas of vegetable and grain related companies in Ithaca, New York. He returned to Idaho in 1948 where he served as a researcher at Parma, as Chairman of the Horticultural Department at U.I. in Moscow, and headed the University's Mission to Ecuador from 1954-1956. In 1961 George accepted a Fulbright Scholarship to teach at Universidad de Ion Andes in Bogota, Columbia, South America. George retired and traveled extensively using Moscow, Idaho as his home base. He died January 27, 1997 in Moscow, Idaho.

Film slides were removed from metal and wood containers and put into archival sleeves for preservation. The second scrapbook was scanned for digital prosperity.
