- Joyce Orlob Evans was a great-granddaughter of Brigham Young. She served on the board of the Young Women's Mutual Improvement Association, writing lyrics, film, and stage adaptations for entertainment events put on by the YWMIA. This collection contains photographs of Evans' family and images of the stage productions she was involved with, dating from the 1840s to 1980s.

Biographical NoteReturn to Top
Joyce Orlob Evans was the daughter of Rudolph and Gladys Young Orlob. She was a great-granddaughter of Brigham Young; her grandfather was Joseph Don Carlos Young. She attended the University of Utah, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi. She was a member of Junior League. In 1944, Joyce Orlob married Sears Joseph Evans (1921-1984); together, they had five children. A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Evans participated in Young Women's Mutual Improvement Association (YWMIA) conferences and events, serving on the MIA general board. Joyce O. Evans wrote movies, such as “Pioneers in Petticoats,” lyrics, and stage adaptations for performance at YWMIA events. In In 1972 the organization merged with the Young Men's Mutual Improvement Association to form the Aaronic Priesthood MIA Young Women.

The Joyce Orlob Evans photograph collection consists of 1 box containing 102 photographs and slides. The images depict Evans' family and family history, including her ancestors Brigham Young and his family. The collection also includes images documenting the stage productions that Evans was invovled with for the Young Women's Mutual Improvement Association. Material in the collection dates from approximately the 1840s through 1980s.
