Content Description
Scholarly papers and other professional and personal materials related to Roland L. “Larry” De Lorme, historian of the Pacific Northwest and faculty member at Western Washington University from 1966 to 1999.
Biographical Note
Roland L. “Larry” De Lorme was born in Aberdeen, Washington, in 1937. He earned a BA in Philosophy from the University of Puget Sound, an MA in American Civilization from the University of Pennsylvania, and a PhD in American History from the University of Colorado. He was a member of the faculty of Western Washington University from 1966 to 1999, serving as Professor of History, chair of the History Department, Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs, and Acting President of the University. De Lorme was a scholar of the American West and Pacific Northwest, specializing in local history and frontier crime and law enforcement. He developed WWU’s programs in archives and records management, American Cultural Studies, and Canadian American Studies. In addition, he directed a renovation of the library, helped develop the library’s electronic catalog, and participated in forming a statewide library resource-sharing consortium. De Lorme died in Bellingham in 2010.
