Donna Clausen Boone was a pioneer in the field of physical therapy, rehabilitation, and exercise programs for patients with hemophilia including those with AIDS. Her research appeared in numerous medical journals and she presented at conferences internationally. In 1976 she authored the textbook, "Comprehensive Management of Hemophilia." Other research focused on biostatics and clinical research methodology.

Donna Clausen was born in Nebraska City, Nebraska, on December 12, 1932. As an infant, she moved to a ranch outside of Laramie with her parents Otto and Hallie Wolfenberger Clausen. At the age of seven, she moved with her mother into Laramie. She graduated from Laramie High School in 1950. She attended the University of Wyoming where she earned a Bachelor of Arts with Honor in Zoology and Physiology in 1954. She then attended Northwestern University where she earned a Master of Science in Physical Therapy in 1955. She also earned a Master of Science in Biometry from the University of Southern California in 1983. She worked at the Illinois Hospital School in Chicago before moving to the California Hospital in Los Angeles in 1959. She also worked at USC where she conducted clinical research. She was honored by the University of Wyoming as a distinguished alumna in 1979. She married Robert Boone, a World War II veteran and aeronautical engineer and aviation artist. They were known for their elaborate Christmas cards. She wrote the letter and he created the art, which often included sketches of their world travels and notable events of the year. They retired in Loveland, Colorado, where he passed away in 2012. She passed away on September 8, 2019.
