Seiko M. Kasai photograph collection, 1944-1946

Seiko M. Kasai (1920-2002) was born on June 8, 1920 in Idaho Falls, Idaho to Tsunajiro Murakami and Iyo Nishimi. Seiko and his brother Mitsugi were adopted by Harry Hiroshi Kasai. Seiko Kasai was a student at the University of Utah when World War II broke out, where he was studying political science and psychology; he later graduated. In 1944, Kasai enlisted in the United States Army, where he studied at and graduated from the Military Intelligence Service Language School in Fort Snelling, Minnesota, in 1945. Seiko served with the 81st Military Government Company in Japan, where he primarily acted as an interpreter and supervisor of other military interpreters. Kasai was discharged in 1946.

Upon returning to the United States, Kasai married Grace Sueoka Sawamura on May 14, 1948. Kasai worked as a systems analyst with Hill Air Force Base. He was involved in the Japanese American community as a member of the Salt Lake Buddhist Temple and the Japanese American Citizens League. An avid bowler, Kasai was a member of a bowling league while in the military. In Salt Lake City, he founded the Nisei Seniors Bowling League. Seiko Kasai died on March 20, 2002.
