Historical Note

Marion Richard Neary was employed by the Civil Aeronautics Authority beginning in 1940 when the CAA was established by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. The CAA was responsible for air traffic control, safety programs, and airway development. Neary continued his employment as the CAA’s functions were given to a new independent body, the Federal Aviation Agency (FAA) in 1958 (later the Federal Aviation Administration). During his time with the CAA, Neary was an installation engineer stationed in Kansas City, Missouri (1942-1946), and then was chief of the Airways Technical Field office in Laramie, Wyoming and then at San Jose, California (1947-1959). He was next stationed in Oakland and then Fremont, California, as a maintenance liaison officer with the FAA (1960-1968). His position was abolished by the FAA in 1969 and he subsequently retired.
