Taylor and Ruby family papers, 1840-2004

Taylor family correspondence is arranged by author/recipient and then by date. It includes World War I correspondence from and about Fred Kees and letters from Maud Taylor Wilson and correspondence after her death in Mexico.

This sub-series contains accounts of a Portland boarding house operated by Mary's aunt, Mary White Kester Erickson, the World War I diary of Mary's brother Fred Kees, Mary's bride's book, assorted greeting cards and an address book from the Taylor's period in Newberg Oregon.

In this sub-series are photographs of the Taylor, Kees and Becket families. Also included are Kees ancestors from White and Lenox lines.

Photographs of and postcards from Taylor families are in this sub-series. Shown are family, friends, living and work environments, modes of transportation and travel. Scenes of wheat harvest, Pendleton, Joseph and surroundings, the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, San Diego, Mexico, Newberg, Oregon, and the Pendleton Round-Up are included.

Information regarding the deaths of Aaron Kees in 1898 and Fred Kees, in 1919 during World War I, is included in this sub-series.

This sub-series contains membership cards, pins, and an American flag from national, community, fraternal, and church affiliations. A pocket watch fob, thought to be that of Henry J. Taylor, and an IOOF clasp with a lock of Aaron Kees' hair is included. A postcard album of Indian postcards is contained here as is a doll belonging to William Frederick Taylor.

Ruby family correspondence is organized by date. This sub-series contains courtship correspondence, letters exchange during World War I, as well as writings of daily life between family and friends.

This sub-series contains E.E.R.'s Valedictory speech, his college scholarship offers and Blanche's funeral tribute. A detailed work of genealogical research, by E.E.R., is included.

This sub-series contains letters pertaining to E.E.R.'s service to Whitman College as well as correspondence and articles about his association with Phi Delta Theta. Letters to former colleagues and associates, penned later in life, are also included.

Letters, reports, postcards, photographs and artifacts from E.E.R.'s service with the American Library Service at Fort Lewis, Washington, and in France and Germany.

This sub-series contains an album of Ruby and Blynn family photographs. Also included are photographs of Whitman College and travel. A scrapbook contains programs, newspaper clippings, and items from social functions.

Contained, in this sub-series, is a lap desk that housed Aiken and Ruby family documents and materials: property deeds and mortgage papers for the Fleecy Dale Woolen Mill located in Richmond, Indiana, high school awards, programs, and essays of E. E. R., greeting cards, and a Book of Proverbs. Also contained is a silver box used during the initiation ceremonies of Beta Epsilon sorority, which became Kappa Kappa Gamma.

This sub-series contains letters of courtship, enlisted and domestic life during World War II, and exchanges between family and friends.

This sub-series contains academic diplomas for Betty Ruby and Henry Taylor.

Henry Taylor's 17-year career as a high school teacher and administrator, at Hartford Public High School, are captured through letters, newspaper clippings, event programs, photographs, school newspapers, and notes in this sub-series.

In this sub-series are materials that provide a picture of the day-to-day lives of Henry and Betty Taylor as well as descriptions of their outdoor pursuits, hobbies, and travels. Also included is information about Henry's sister Maxine Taylor Lorer and a second cousin, Seeley Allen.

Contained, in this sub-series, are high school annuals and a Whitman College scrapbook, photographs of family, friends, domestic life and travel, and a souvenir silk scarf from the Pendleton Round-Up.
