Content Description

This collection contains several hundred letters written to Edith Strange between 1898 and 1916. The correspondence documents Strange’s musical studies as well as the daily activities of her family and friends in various small towns in Washington and Oregon. Letters from her father, Presbyterian minister Ferdinand G. Strange, discuss matters relating to churches in Mukilteo and Sedro-Woolley, Washington. Several letters appear to be from men who courted Edith. Others are from acquaintances in Hawaii, India, and Ireland, and comment on miscellaneous topics, including missionary work.

The letters are arranged chronologically. Many were mailed with others in the same envelope and have been kept together.
