Summary
The Bureau of Economic and Business Research was established in 1932 to support research by faculty members of the Department of Economics and the College of Business on economic conditions in the State of Utah as well as the Rocky Mountain region. The majority of the material in this collection consists of research reports prepared by the Bureau from 1949 until 1967. This collection also contains miscellaneous papers of R. Thayne Robson who was Director of the Bureau from 1972 until 2002.

Content Description

The first series of this collection is comprised of of 2.25 linear feet of research reports of economic conditions within the state and Intermountain region dating from 1949 to 1967. Topics covered include banking, consumer habits, local media, manufacturing, natural resource development, population growth, railroads, and recreation and tourism. The majority of the reports pertain to the Utah economy, though economic conditions in other western states are also covered. The second series of this collection consists of 0.50 linear feet of miscellaneous correspondence, memoranda, reports and speeches from R. Thayne Robson, Professor of Management, who headed the Bureau of Business and Economic Research from 1972 until his death in 2002. The miscellaneous reports in this series consist mostly of drafts written about topics including energy, the housing market, human resources, mineral resource development, telecommunications, transportation, and travel and tourism within the State of Utah. The miscellaneous speeches generally cover economic conditions in the State of Utah.
