Historical Note

Dr. Lillian DeYoung (1926-2007) was born in Ogden, Utah. She earned a BS in Nursing Education, a master's in educational administration, and a Ph.D in education ofdministration at the University of Utah. After receiving her Ph.D, DeYoung moved to Akron, Ohio and served as dean and professor of nursing at the University of Akron School of Nursing. She was named "Nurse of the Year" in 1965. The University of Akron established the Dr. Lillian J. DeYoung Endowed Scholarship to Promote Nursing Excellence in her honor.
