Historical Note

Basketball has been an intercollegiate athletic event at Washington State University since early in the 20th century. Intercollegiate men's basketball dates to 1904, and women's to 1903. Games have been filmed on a regular, but not comprehensive, basis since about 1960.

Content Description

Films and video tapes of Washington State University (previously the State College of Washington) basketball games dating from 1941 to 1986. The materials include 7 inch film reels, which is the largest portion of the collection; large format and oversize film reels; and videotapes. Some non-game material is also included at the end of each series.

Administrative Information

Arrangement

Materials are organized into three series by material type, for ease of storage. Within each series materials are arranged chronologically by game date, with non-game material following.

Acquisition Information

Films and recordings of Washington State University basketball games, and related events, were transferred to the Washington State University Libraries by the Intercollegiate Athletics Department in 1991 (UA91-14). In 2010-2011, three DVDs were added to the last series: the 1941 NCAA Championship vs. Wisconsin, and 1954 and 1968 games vs. Idaho.
