Historical Note

The Women's Recreation Association was organized in the late 1940s to offer both intramural and intercollegiate athletics as well as recreational activities for women. Its predecessor was the Women's Athletic Association. The WRA continued to be active until 1973 when the Women's Intercollegiate Athletic Department was formed.

Content Description

This collection consists of photographs of the Women's Recreation Association (WRA) officers and women's athletic activities and events. A variety of sports are represented including synchronized swimming; dance; basketball; volleyball; softball; field hockey; tennis; gymnastics; bowling; horseback riding; archery; and canoeing.

The collection also includes 12 postcards of Oregon Agricultural College campus views and buildings as well as the Benton County Courthouse, the Corvallis Methodist Episcopal Church, and a downtown Corvallis street scene.

The collection consists exclusively of photographic prints (P171:1-159) and 3.5 x 5.5 in postcards (P171:160-171). Most of the prints are 5x7 b/w or smaller; there are a few 8x10 b/w prints and only 5 snapshot-type color prints. Six of the postcards are color.
